my knight on a white mac

so how weird is internet dating - i have tried it before, and again, but every time i log on i just feel like looking over my shoulder - what if some-one sees me and realises that my life is not as perfect as one of my manicured fingernails.

it is a weird world, but i braved it anyway - it is much safer than any other location in south africa,

the funniest is how people describe who they are:

first you start at the username:

some use their real name linked with some unexplainable numbers - jacques241 - no creativity at all.

others use an attribute they think they posess - considerateguy - well 2 marks for trying, but no thanks, who are you trying to convince, me or yourself.

then you get the ones that use animals - donkey - why on earth would you want to be called donkey - okay, the donkey in shrek was cute, but that is where he should stay.

then lastly you get the creative guys - afterdark - what does this mean, you only look good after dark, you only get a life after dark - honestly though, of all of them, these ones are usually the most interesting to 'talk' to.

so now, after you have chosen a profile based on the merit of a username, and if you are lucky a photo (not always to be believed - believe me) you have to read through two gaggingly corny paragraphs - "why should you get to know me" & "what my perfect match look like"

examples follows:

why should you get to know me?

I love life, am very chilled out and am easy to talk to. I love the ocean, animals, nature, and all rich, old cultures. I am passionate about art and travelling and would Ideally love to share these things with someone I love. I am a very giving and loving person and when the right woman comes into my life...she will be very happy. I also have a twin brother and we own our own business, both of which have tought me great patience and understanding :)

looking at the above, i really feel sorry for this guy, and for whoever falls for it, lets start at the beginning -

1. he loves life, animals, nature, cultures, art and travelling - please narrow down, can't keep up! 2. he says that the right woman will be very happy when she comes into his life - what a load
of ... shouldn't he be the one who is happy when she does show up!
3. what is the story with mentioning the twin brother - is it a two for the price of one special?

well my manolos will certainly not be kicked under his bed anytime soon!

what my perfect match looks like

Someone who is motivated, fun, loving, adventurous and intelligent. I am looking for someone who can debate issues, someone who has their own opinions and isn't afraid to share them.

oh, this is precious - let me tell you, that a man does not want a woman with her own opinions - he wants her to adopt his opinions and will trade her in if she proves to be too clever and can outsmart him. girls... enough said

and then you get the sceptics - they still want someone to contact them, but want to show that they are above the normal corny paragraph:

why should you get to know me?

Does it matter what we write here? Is it not all about what we see and whether we like it that truely propels us to start making contact...? I'm only asking...

what my perfect match looks like

Well, having posed the question you might also want me to answer it. All that I will say at this stage is, that you may very well think that but I’ll reserve comment until after you intellectual, emotionally stable etc etc etc ladies have shared your opinions… and may be photos…

if i really have to talk to someone, i will probably choose someone like this, as i am a good ol' sceptic myself...

lets see how it goes, i will keep you updated on the speed with which my knight comes galloping down the broadband universe...

friday = afrikaans music

well since i was brought up as a good old boeredogter, but became more and more english as i grew up, it is not funny that i still enjoy afrikaans music just as much as any other language!

i went to a show last night, which really blew me away, and even though it was afrikaans and you know what is sometimes said about the afrikaans music culture, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, i was pleasantly surprised.

zander held a zander & friends show at back 2 basix in melville where he gave platform to lesser known artists in order to boost them and i must say what an incredible thing to do.

i was amazed at the talent out there that none of us know about and would probably never have heard of, wasn't it for people like zander who will gladly share his stage with people he believes in.

if you have never heard of him, do yourself a favour and climb out of the comfortzone - get the cd -and a dictionary, should your matric afrikaans have left you already - and just listen - i wish i knew the stories behind the songs because his emotion shows clearly with every single note he plays - an incredible pianist, singer, songwriter and friend to his fellow artists.

great great show - if you have the chance - try and catch him live - he is a hottie!
